Submitted by colburn on Fri, 2012-03-02 14:05
The "Draughtsman-Writer" automaton, originally built in 1810 by Swiss mechanician, Henri Maillardet, was delivered in pieces to The Franklin Institute Science Museum in 1928. Brian Selznick studied this automaton when writing his book, The Invention of Hugo Cabret.
To watch two videos of this amazing machine and for the rest of its story, go to The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, PA.
